I just got an isight today. I love it. The quality is great. My question is, does anyone know how to set up a camera site? I just want to be able to add video to a personal site. I'd like to be able to do it on my own, without the use of an outside program. But, suggestions involving outside programs are also welcome. Any help is appreciated. |
Also, I am having trouble connecting to my boyfriend. He is on Windows XP with the newest version of AIM downloaded and also the extra patch that is recommended. He gets my request for the video chat and accepts it and then it just doesn't do anything. On my end it says 'starting video chat' and never actually starts it. Any suggestions? He's already made sure the ports are available and firewalls are all off.

Well, I've been using a little application called EvoCam to capture a video image and then add it to a self-created web site, but EvoCam costs around $30 for a license. Here’s
a look at my camera site, although today I'm using a camcorder to capture video instead of my iSight cam.
Very cool. That's exactly what I want only I don't know how to configure it. I have evocam downloaded already and will probably register it. I want to use my .mac space to make the site. Hmmm.
That's exactly what I do. I use my .mac account to save images into my "Pictures" folder, then the web site downloads the images onto the web site I whipped up.
I was at first using the free EvoCam application, but I realized that the registered version is so much more powerful. I even use the "motion capture" mode at night to capture the critters which run around our back yard.
That's what I want. So basically I just have to have the site made and the configurations listed in the evocam preferences? Is there any more to it than that?
Me again, let me see how mine's set up, and I'll get back to you.
I do remember it being rather easy, but a couple of the steps weren't exactly "givens".
But to refresh, did you create a meta tag which refreshes your web site periodically? I think I have mine set to refresh every two minutes, but it might be less.
Oh no, I didn't. I'll have to do that. Thank you!
Question though - when you hit "refresh" on your web site, is the image actually refreshing? If it is, then you've done everything correct as pertaining to EvoCam (which should be the hardest part of setting everything up!)
And when it's all set up and done, can I see your handiwork? ;-)
Yes, it does refresh. I am going to add the metatag and what not later on tonite.I'll reply here with the url when it's done and looks decent:)
Ok, I've got a test page up. I'm still using the trial version though. Is the paid version as choppy as the trial. it's also slowing my powerbook down a lot. My boyfriend is using FireFox on his WinXP machine and he actually has to refresh it on his own. When I look at it with safari it refreshes on its own but it's not great.
oh man. i am nuts. it works. i had sent him to the wrong URL. The jpg instead of the html file. haha.
I've got it to work but its not in real time. Like I can only see the new frames if I refresh. Hmmm.
Well, I haven't really played with the whole iChat thing a whole lot, but I've only gotten a 1-way video chat to work (as in, my, for example, sister back home could only see me and hear me, and she has to type back to me.)
I could be completely wrong though.
